A Love Letter To The Men In My Life
This is for the man who stayed up late last night washing the school uniforms for this morning.
This is for the man who woke up early to make sure the lunch boxes were packed.
This is for the man who booked in his yearly health check up even though his week is busy.
This is for the man who will leave work early to get to his son’s school performance on time.
This is for the man who told his daughter he is proud of her and his son that he’s loved.
This is for the man who has stepped into the space that another man left behind.
This is for the man who stayed sober last Friday night so he could pick his teenagers up from their party.
This is for the man who tells their partner they are beautiful and doesn’t expect a photo shopped body.
This is for the man who chooses not to numb his pain through addictions.
This is for the man who initiates hard conversations knowing it’s the only way for a relationship to evolve.
This is for the man who is still grieving a broken promise but is brave enough to take another chance with love.
This is for the man who is willing to step out of the stereotypes of his gender.
This is for the man who doesn’t have a circle of friends around him during hard times.
This is for the man who still has a wound from his mother and an empty space in his heart from his father.
This is for the man with the little boy inside him that is craving connection.
I see you. I know you want things to be different. I hear your attempts at vulnerability. So many of you were never
taught an emotional vocabulary and yet you are expected to have the right words.
I see you. I know you struggle. I hear you being blamed. I watch as perpetrators are being
exposed around the globe and all the focus is on the men who trample and destroy.
Know that you are appreciated. Know that the good that you do is noticed. Know that the effort does pay off.
If you want a chat I’m here. You’re not alone.
